Higher twists in deep inelastic scattering
We perform an exploratory study of higher twist contributions to deep inelastic scattering. We estimate the size of two major sources of higher twist, namely absorptive corrections and the vector meson dominance (VMD) contribution. We find that they give a sizeable higher twist component of F2. For example at x = 0.01 it is about 8% (17%) at Q2 = 10 GeV2 (4 GeV2), reaching up to 27% at x = 10−4...
متن کاملHigher-twist Effects in Deep-inelastic Scattering*
Non-scaling, non-factorizing 1 Q2 I contributions to cross sections are derived for semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, RN+ R'?TX. These higher twist terms are dominant at large z=p; pN /Q l pN. They provide unusual (l-y) terms in the cross section, as well as asymmetries in the azimuthal angle dependence. Calculations are also presented for the quark to pion fragmentation function (Submi...
متن کاملDeep Inelastic Scattering
Recent deep inelastic results from the H1 collaboration are presented. The topics covered include inclusive diffractive physics, the determination of αS using the event shapes, the study of the hadronic final state at low x with single particles and with jets, the structure function measurements in particular F p 2 at low Q and the high Q physics both in neutral and charged current.

These lectures include an introduction to the partonic description of the proton, the photon and the ‘colour singlet’, as seen in inclusive and semi-inclusive DIS, in e+e− collisions, and in diffractive processes, respectively. Their formal treatment using structure, fragmentation, and fracture functions is outlined giving an insight into the perturbative QCD framework for these functions. Exam...
متن کاملSaturation In Deep Inelastic Scattering
The solution to the BFKL equation grows like a power of center of mass energy, s, violating unitarity conditions at high energies. The growth of the cross section can be tamed by taking into account multiple pomeron exchanges. This is known as saturation and it is expressed in the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, [6]. Conservation of energy should also slow down the growth of the cross section, and...
